Okay, nothing against Betty White -- she's the lady of the moment and all, I get it -- but Carol Channing is the best person alive. This isn't about diva worship or gayness at all. It's just a recognition that, as you age, you can take a wrong turn down that grumpy old person road, or you can keep striding straightforwardly in the direction of being cooler than everyone else. And that's pretty much what this woman has done. All the evidence you need starts after the jump, as she takes time out of her busy schedule to own the entire panel on The View.
After that, the legend went on Wendy Williams, where Channing told the wacky host that she was part black and can "sing and dance better than any white woman." Williams was so busy weeping tears of joy she couldn't keep her guest quiet for even a moment.
If this is your first exposure to her, you should also seek out the mind-bending 1968 LSD comedy, Skidoo. She takes control of that one, too.

Bravo to your comments about Carol. In 2007 and 2008 I had the good fortune to bring Carol and her husband Harry to New Hampshire to do a couple of benefit performances for AIDS. She was amazing - singing, dancing and telling hilarious stories to an audience that was enraptured. She helped raise tens of thousands of dollars and was tireless in her efforts to make a huge difference. She and Harry, instead of enjoying retirement are now out there fighting to keep the arts in the schools and to leave a legacy for future generations that is remarkable.
