Or so say health officials in the small town of Ogunquit, Maine. Town officials have requested the owner of Mainestreet, a gay bar, restaurant, and cabaret, to have his bartenders keep their shirts on. Going shirtless, the report claims, is a "health hazard."

We can see the logic -- skin flakes, stray hairs, etc. (gross, sorry) -- but the real issue comes from town resident Harriet Yaffe. "I love Ogunquit and I love the gay men," she told the Seacoast Online. "I have no problems with anyone. I just don't want a tacky town." Yaffe added that passing children shouldn't be subjected to the image they are portraying -- namely, that gay one.

The bar's owner, Norm Paquin, is reasonable and has complied to the request, saying he will do all he can to keep his good standing in the town. And we don't blame him. Small town politics can be difficult, and a bartender going shirtless versus a bartender wearing a skimpy mesh tank is basically the same thing. But sometimes you gotta fight for your right to party... without shirts. We're here, we're queer, we have rockin' bods we want to show off. Get used to it.
